How should I cover a basketball hoop at our reception hall?

We’re having our wedding reception at place that has a basketball hoop mounted on the wall. The whole backboard is white, so there’s just the orange hoop and the net that are ugly looking. I’ve heard that decorating something you want to hide will just draw attention to it, so I’m not sure if I should even try to hide it with decorations.
